Thu 25 August 2022:

Nearly 280,000 Palisade and Telluride vehicles made by the South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia have been recalled owing to a fire risk, according to US authorities

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the automakers warned owners of the recalled vehicles to park them outside and away from buildings because they may burst into flames,

According to the NHTSA, the recall affects 36,417 Kia Telluride SUV model years 2020–2022, as well as 245,030 Hyundai Palisade SUV model years 2020–2022.

A tow hitch harness may have been placed on the recalled cars as factory standard equipment or may have been added as an accessory from a Hyundai dealer.

Debris and moisture accumulation on the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board (PCB) may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire.

As an interim repair, dealers will inspect the tow hitch module and remove the fuse, as necessary, free of charge. The final remedy is currently under development.

In the US and Canada, the Korean manufacturers reported 25 flames or melting incidents, but no crashes or injuries.
