Sun 03 May 2026:
A significant hearing was held on Saturday at the Ajmer District Court concerning a petition asserting the existence of a Shiv temple within the premises of the historic Ajmer Dargah. The case, which has drawn considerable public attention, focused primarily on the issue of impleadment of various parties in the sensitive dispute.
The petition was filed by Vishnu Gupta, National President of Hindu Sena, and Rajvardhan Singh Parmar, National President of Maharana Pratap Sena. During the proceedings, two prominent bodies representing the Khadims — the hereditary custodians of the Dargah — including the office of the Dargah Diwan, moved applications under Order 1, Rule 10 of the Civil Procedure Code seeking to be formally included as parties to the case.
Both sides presented detailed legal arguments supported by documentary evidence. The petitioners highlighted historical references, including mentions in the Akbarnama, to substantiate their claim of a pre-existing Shiv temple at the site. They urged the court to rely on scientific verification, such as surveys and examinations by the Archaeological Department, rather than solely on traditional accounts.

Representatives of the Dargah side stressed their longstanding traditional rights, hereditary association with the shrine, and historical custodianship, strongly advocating for their inclusion in the proceedings to protect their interests.
After extensive arguments from all stakeholders, the court reserved its order on the impleadment applications. The decision is expected to significantly influence the future course of the case.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Vishnu Gupta said, “Today there was an extensive discussion where all aspects were heard. We will wait for the court’s order and take further steps accordingly.”
Senior Advocate A.P. Singh noted, “The Akbarnama mentions the presence of a Shiv temple at this site. This case concerns the sentiments of many people. We have submitted documents and urge the Archaeological Department to establish the truth.”
Sandeep Kumar, counsel for the petitioners, described May 2 as an important day, emphasising the need for scientific evidence. Advocate Siddharth, representing the Dargah Diwan, confirmed that all relevant legal and historical facts were placed before the court.
The matter remains highly sensitive, balancing historical claims, religious sentiments, and legal procedures.
