Thu 02 February 2023:

The decision to extend Andrew Tate’s arrest was affirmed by a Romanian appeals court, so the former kickboxer, influencer will remain in preventive custody till at least February 27.

Tate, 36, his brother Tristan, 34, and two suspects from Romania, including one who was a former police officer, were detained in December on suspicion of rape, human trafficking, and organizing a gang to prey on women. All have said they did nothing wrong.

Last month a judge extended their detention until the end of February, citing “the capacity … of the defendants to exercise permanent psychological control over their victims, including by resorting to constant acts of violence”.

After a brief hearing in which the Tate brothers arrived handcuffed together in a police van, Andrew declared his innocence to waiting reporters, the Bucharest court of appeal upheld that decision on Wednesday. Neither has been charged as of yet.

Tina Glandian, the brothers’ US legal counsel, who has previously represented boxer Mike Tyson and singers Chris Brown and Ke$ha, argued that their brothers’ detention without charge for more than 30 days violated their international human rights.

The decision came after Tate told the Romanian court he is ‘being held in custody to make me mentally ill’.

He claimed his detention was part of a ploy to make him succumb mentally.

As Tate was escorted from the Bucharest Court of Appeals with his brother and their two alleged female accomplices, he shouted at reporters: ‘You will find out the truth of this case soon’.

Tate insisted there was ‘no evidence’ he exploited young girls and forced them to create pornographic content on webcams.

‘Ask them for evidence and they will give you none because it doesn’t exist,’ Tate shouted as he was escorted from the court into a police van. ‘You will find out the truth of this case soon.’
