Tue 16 July 2024:
Internet personality Andrew Tate will remain in Romania as he awaits trial on charges of human trafficking, Reuters reported. A Romanian court of appeal on Tuesday overturned a previous ruling that allowed him to leave the country.
Tate, along with his brother Tristan and two Romanian female suspects, was indicted in mid-2023 for human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women, allegations they deny.
In April, a Bucharest court ruled that their trial could begin, a decision Tate appealed. While awaiting the appeal decision, all four suspects were banned from leaving Romania.

The brothers were held in police custody from late December 2022 until April 2023 to prevent them from fleeing or tampering with evidence. They were then placed under house arrest until August, when courts placed them under judicial control, a lighter preventative measure.
Earlier this month, the Bucharest court lifted the travel restriction, allowing the suspects freedom of movement within the EU. However, prosecutors challenged this decision, and the Bucharest Court of Appeals reinstated the travel ban on Tuesday.
The Tate brothers, both former kickboxers with dual U.S. and British citizenship, are the highest-profile suspects facing trial for human trafficking in Romania.

“God has made a plan for me, and I am following his decisions,” Tate told reporters in court on Tuesday.
“If I get shot in the head, I get shot in the head. If I get free, I get free. If I stay home, I stay home. I’m happy. I’m not emotionally involved in any of the process. I’m going to follow the law. I’m going to respect the Romanian judicial system. Whatever they decide, I will do.”
