Tue 08 November 2022:

To make the procedure simpler, tech giant Apple has started working on a project to modify its voice assistant’s trigger word from “Hey Siri” to “Siri”.

The new feature has reportedly been under development for a number of months, and according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, it will probably launch either next year or in 2024, according to The Verge.

It means that the user only needs to say “Siri” followed by a command to start the smart assistant.

To make the feature work effectively, the company needs to put in “significant AI training and underlying engineering work,” as the smart assistant would need to recognise the single wake word in a variety of accents and dialects, the report said.

The two-word trigger phrase “Hey Siri” makes the voice assistance more likely to recognise it.

Earlier this year, Apple had introduced a fifth ‘American’ voice for its Siri voice assistant in the beta of iOS 15.4.

Although iOS developer Steve Moser discovered that the filename referred to the new voice as “Quinn,” Apple’s user-facing interface referred to it as “Voice 5”.

It had been a little under a year since Apple added its final two American Siri voices, and it ceased always utilizing a female-sounding voice.
