Days after arresting Islamic scholar Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui from Meerut on charges of religious conversation, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Tuesday carried out a search operation in Shaheen Bagh area of New Delhi.
The UP ATS conducted the search on the basis of an order from a court, reported Aaj Tak.
The channel reported that the ATS has raided premises related to Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui. Documents related to funding have been reportedly seized by the ATS.
Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui, the 64-year-old Islamic scholar, is a prominent cleric from Uttar Pradesh and the president of both the Global Peace Center and the Jamia Imam Waliullah Trust.
A group of people were arrested for allegedly conversion on June 20.
As per officials, 14 more people, including Maulana Umar Gautam, Maulana Kalim Siddiqui, Rameshwar Kawade alias Adam, Bhupriya Bando alias Arsalan Mustafa and Kausar Alam, have been arrested during the probe into the matter.
In a statement issued by the ATS, it was revealed that Jagtap was involved in ‘Dawah’ (advising individuals to embrace Islam), along with Kawade and others since converting to the religion 10 years ago.
Jagtap created several WhatsApp group chats for the purpose people to follow Islam, according to the statement.
AIMIM seeks President’s intervention
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Gujarat on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Ahmedabad district collector demanding the immediate release of Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui.
In a memorandum addressed to President Ram Nath Kovind, Sabir Kabliwala, the AIMIM Gujarat president said, “India is a secular country which doesn’t believe in a single or specific religion. The Constitution of India under article 25 and 26 grants freedom to its citizens to practise and propagate their own religion.”
“The Bharatiya Janata Party in its governed states has been making laws that are against the freedom granted to citizens regarding their religions and such laws are passed by different states’ governors without any questions asked. In this manner, Gujarat, UP, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand have passed anti-conversion laws that is a direct attack on the constitutional rights of the people.
Thousands gather and protest against arrest of Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui
Thousands of people from Mumbra gathered on Friday afternoon protesting against the arrest of Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui and the illegal eviction of Muslim families in the state of Assam.
The protest was organized by the Mumbra-Kausa Ulama committee on Friday near the MEK company. After Friday prayers, the majority of the minority masses started gathering at the spot. People from every mosque of the respective areas in Mumbra and Kausa came walking towards the spot holding placards.
Around 5,000 Ulamas gathered at the spot at around 2:30 pm for the protest, which went on until 3:45 pm. The Ulama gave a memorandum to Mumbra police senior inspector Madhukar Kad that will further be submitted to the Thane district collector.
