BILL GATES BELIEVES A PANDEMIC IS 50% LIKELY TO HAPPEN WITHIN 20 YEARS

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and a billionaire businessman, believes there is a 50% chance that a new pandemic may emerge in the next 20 years, with natural origins.

“The human population is growing and we are invading more and more ecosystems. That is why I estimate that there is a 50% chance that we will have a pandemic of natural origin in the next 20 years as a result of climate change,” Gates told the Spanish newspaper elDiario in an interview out on Saturday.

According to Gates, who recently wrote “How to Prevent the Next Pandemic,” the next pandemic might be a flu, a new type of coronavirus, or even a human-made virus, which he described as a “very scary scenario.”

The World Health Organization said in April that the number of verified COVID-19 cases worldwide has topped 500 million.

Through his Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and collaboration with the UN-chaired Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator and the COVAX facility, Gates has been an active player in the global drive to provide COVID-19 diagnostics, treatments, and vaccinations.
