Saudi Arabia says Mecca alliance agrees to ‘activate collective deterrence measures’ to respond to attacks
Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman has issued a statement following an emergency meeting in Riyadh of the signatories of the Mecca pact, a joint defence agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan.
The Emergency Meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee under the Makkah Alliance for Defense reaffirmed the solidarity and unity of our countries in confronting the heinous attacks against the Kingdom and the holy sites. The committee agreed to activate collective deterrence measures within the framework of the Alliance in response to the attacks and all those responsible for them.

The minister said the meeting “reaffirmed the solidarity and unity of our countries in confronting” the Houthis’ “heinous attacks against the Kingdom and the holy sites”.
He added that the countries “agreed to activate collective deterrence measures within the framework of the Alliance in response to the attacks and all those responsible for them”.
The developments come as renewed fighting in Yemen spilled into neighboring Saudi Arabia, with the Houthis launching drone and missile attacks targeting the kingdom’s territory.
