BRITISH INDUSTRY CALLS FOR GOV’T ACTION ON ENERGY PRICES, SUPPLY

Thu 07 October 2021:

The Energy Intensive Users Group (EIUG) in the United Kingdom has urged the government and regulator Ofgem to act on high prices and supply problems this winter, which they believe are threatening business.

“The issue is not just whether the supply of gas and electricity will be available but also one of price. Energy intensive industries could simply be priced out of the market,” it said in a statement on Thursday.

The announcement comes as the UK grapples with record wholesale energy prices, which have already curtailed some company, and as a result of a National Grid assessment released on Thursday predicting that electricity supplies will be tight this winter.
