Sun 03 April 2022:

On April 2, China reported 13,287 new Covid cases, the most since February 2020, with the majority in Shanghai and northeastern Jilin province.

On Sunday, the national health authority reported 1,506 confirmed Covid cases for the previous day, a decrease from the previous day’s total of 2,129 cases.

However, the country has not yet categorized asymptomatic individuals as confirmed cases, despite the fact that the number of verified cases grew from 7,869 to 11,781 on Saturday. Among the confirmed cases, 1,455 were locally transmitted, with 956 from Jilin and 438 from Shanghai, effectively shutting down the whole city.

During a press conference on Sunday, a senior official of the Shanghai health authority said that Shanghai will be carrying out a city-wide antigen testing on Sunday and mass nucleic acid testing on Monday.

Shanghai has been striving to stop the spread of cases by imposing a two-stage lockdown, pressuring the manufacturers to halt the operations and causing serious congestion at the Shanghai port.

According to the data, oil tanker congestion off Shanghai has been decreasing since March 31, but the number of bulkers queued on the outer Yangtze has grown to over 90, the highest level since October 2021. Many ports surrounding Shanghai, including as Ningbo, are currently congested as companies reroute cargos to avoid lengthy logistical turnarounds.
