A YouGov survey reveals a significant decline in disposable vape use in the UK, with only 13% of young vapers and 8% of adult vapers using these products a year after the 2025 government ban on single-use vapes.

The UK recorded a sharp decline in disposable vape use a year after a government ban on single-use vapes, a survey cited by Sky News revealed on Monday.

YouGov survey data showed that 13% of 11-17-year-olds who vape mainly use disposable products, down from 42% before the ban was introduced in 2025.

The rate is also lower than the peak of 69% recorded in 2023.

The survey also revealed a decline in disposable vape use among adults. Just 8% of adult vapers said they mainly use disposable products, down from 24% in 2025 and 31% in 2023.

The findings suggest that the ban helped reduce the popularity and availability of disposable vapes, although millions are still reportedly being discarded despite the measure, according to Sky News.

Disposable vapes look harmless — colorful, cheap, and convenient — but they pack serious harm in two big ways: to your body and to the planet.
First, your health:
These devices deliver high doses of nicotine, which is extremely addictive — often more than a pack of cigarettes in one device. Nicotine harms developing brains in teens and young adults, affecting memory, attention, and impulse control. The vapor you inhale contains ultrafine particles, heavy metals like lead, nickel, and chromium, plus cancer-causing chemicals such as formaldehyde. This can inflame and damage your lungs, increase risks of breathing problems, heart issues, and in rare cases lead to severe lung injury. Many people, especially youth, get hooked without realizing how hard it is to quit.
 Second, the environment:

Disposable vapes are the ultimate single-use nightmare. Every second, thousands are thrown away. They contain lithium-ion batteries that can catch fire in landfills, non-biodegradable plastics that break into microplastics, and toxic e-liquid with nicotine and heavy metals that leach into soil and waterways, poisoning wildlife and contaminating water. In the US alone, over 150 million are discarded yearly — creating massive e-waste and fire hazards at waste facilities.

Unlike reusable vapes, these are designed to be trashed after a few hundred puffs. They’re marketed heavily to young people with sweet flavors, driving addiction and pollution at the same time.Bottom line: Disposable vapes aren’t a safe or “clean” alternative — they’re addictive, toxic to your lungs and brain, and an environmental disaster. If you’re using them, consider quitting or switching to better-regulated options, and always dispose of them as hazardous waste.
