EIGHT BILLION PEOPLE LIVE ON THIS PLANET

Save Our Planet World

Tue 15 November 2022:

According to UN estimates, the world population reached 8 billion on Friday, marking an important milestone in human growth.

In a previous statement on Thursday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated, “The milestone is an occasion to celebrate diversity and advancements while considering humanity’s shared responsibility for the planet.”

The increase in the global population is anticipated to continue, despite a slower growth rate, thanks to advancements in medical, nutrition, personal hygiene, and public health.

“While it took the global population 12 years to grow from 7 to 8 billion, it will take approximately 15 years — until 2037 — for it to reach 9 billion, a sign that the overall growth rate of the global population is slowing,” the UN said.

India is poised to overtake China as the world’s most populous country in 2023, the UN has estimated.

More than half of the projected growth in global population by 2050 will be accounted for by eight nations: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Tanzania.

In 2019, the average life expectancy at birth was 72.8 years, an increase of roughly nine years since 1990, with additional mortality decreases expected to lead to an average global lifespan of around 77.2 years in 2050.
