Turkey’s local election results shows that citizens understand it’s a matter of survival for the country, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said late on Sunday as votes continue to be tallied up across Turkey.
Erdoğan said focus will be on the economy, politics, defense and industrial production until the next elections in 2023, noting that there’s “a lot of work ahead of us in the next 4.5 years.”

The Turkish President also said there’s a “very strong reform plan” ahead, pointing that his government will implement strong economic plans.

Earlier on Sunday, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.

Voting started at 7.00 a.m local time (0400GMT) and continued through 4.00 p.m. local time (1300GMT) in 32 out of Turkey’s 81 provinces.
