FACEBOOK, WHATSAPP AND INSTAGRAM ARE OFFLINE

Tech World

Mon 04 October 2021:

The three apps, all of which are owned by Facebook and run on the same infrastructure, went offline soon before 5 p.m. Facebook Messenger and Workplace, among other related tools, have also stopped working.

The websites and apps for all of the services were responding with server errors. Reports on DownDetector.com showed the outages appear to be widespread, but it’s unclear if it impacts all users or just some locations. It’s not currently known what’s causing the outage.

Instagram.com is flashing a 5xx Server Error message, while the Facebook site merely tells us that something went wrong. The problem also appears to be affecting its virtual reality arm, Oculus. Users can load games they already have installed and the browser works, but social features or installing new games does not. The outage is thorough enough that it’s affecting Workplace from Facebook customers and, according to Jane Manchun Wong, Facebook’s internal sites.
