FOUR PEOPLE INJURED AFTER A TERRORIST SUSPECT BLEW HIMSELF UP IN JEDDAH

As security personnel attempted to arrest a Saudi man wanted in connection with a deadly blast in the kingdom in 2015, he detonated an explosive device in Jeddah on Wednesday, killing himself and injuring four others in the process.

The event was reported on Friday by the Saudi news agency SPA, who named the individual as Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Shehri.

On Wednesday night in Jeddah’s Al Samer neighborhood, Al-Shehri detonated the explosive belt, injuring three security personnel who were attempting to arrest him as well as a Pakistani national, according to SPA.

SPA stated that the unidentified injured were taken to a hospital without providing further information regarding their injuries.

According to Saudi state media reports, Al-Shehri was suspected of being a member of a domestic terrorism cell that coordinated the 2015 suicide bombing of a mosque in Abha frequented by security force members.

According to official media at the time, 33 individuals were injured in the incident, along with 11 members of the security forces and four citizens of Bangladesh.

Al-Shehri was wanted in connection with the bombing in early 2016.

Saudi Arabia, home to Islam’s holiest site, Mecca, which was the scene of several massive attacks by Islamist militants in the 2000s, including attacks on security forces and Western targets.

Al Qaeda, the Islamic State, and other groups have all carried out such acts.
