Sun 26 December 2021:

On Saturday, France reported a new high of 104,611 COVID-19 infections, breaking the 100,000 mark for the first time since the outbreak began.

Saturday’s tally was the third day in a row that numbers had surpassed previous highs.

They come ahead of a Monday video conference with President Emmanuel Macron and key members of his government to discuss new COVID-19 safety measures.

Officials are concerned about the impact of the Omicron variant’s rapid spread.

Adults should get a booster shot three months after their initial vaccination, according to the health authority.

The government is now moving to make the health pass issued to those who have been vaccinated only valid if they accept the booster shot.

The pass is required for international travel as well as access to cafés, restaurants, and public spaces.

Some areas have already put in place their own security measures.
