Mon 13 December 2021:

France has launched 400 investigations into networks selling forged COVID-19 health cards, the interior minister announced on Sunday, as virus-related hospitalizations skyrocket across the country.

In recent days, French media has focused on the case of a woman infected with the virus who died in a regional hospital in Paris after displaying a forged vaccine certificate. The hospital’s intensive care chief stated that if they had known the woman had not been vaccinated, they would have given her immediate antibody treatment.

Authorities have discovered thousands of fake COVID-19 health passes in use throughout France, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on RTL radio on Sunday. He stated that 400 investigations into the sale of fake passes have been opened, with some “connected to health professionals.”

He didn’t say how many people had been arrested or give any other details.

The government is tightening the rules on the passes that are required to enter all restaurants as well as an increasing number of events and venues. To obtain one, individuals must show proof of full vaccination, a negative virus test within the last 24 hours, or recent recovery from COVID-19.
