FRENCH ‘SPIDER-MAN’ SCALES SKYSCRAPER TO PROTEST COVID HEALTH PASS

Thu 09 September 2021:

On Tuesday, Alain Robert, the “French Spider-Man,” climbed a tower in the La Défense business district on the outskirts of Paris to protest the COVID health pass.

The 60-year-old was arrested more than an hour into his gear-free climb and taken into detention by police at noon for “endangering the lives of others.”

It was his 11th time attempting to scale the 187-meter Total Coupole tower.

Robert, who usually climbs alone, was joined for the first time by three young climbers, ages 21, 28, and 33, for whom it was a “honour” to join a climbing legend.

“It’s a climb against the health pass, which annoys everyone. It is an attack on fundamental freedoms, this pass is a disgrace,” Alain Robert said.

A COVID card is required to enter pubs, restaurants, museums, and other cultural venues, as well as mass events and long-distance public transportation, proving that the holder has been vaccinated, tested negative for COVID, or just recovered from the infection.

“It’s also a tribute to Jean-Paul Belmondo, who conducted his own stunts,” Robert said of his latest climb. The 88-year-old French actor died on Monday.

Alain Robert became recognized around the world for climbing over a hundred skyscrapers and other metropolitan landmarks with his bare hands, generally without insurance and, most importantly, without permission.

He climbed to the top of Barcelona’s Agbar Tower in March 2020 to protest the “fear” induced by COVID-19.
