Sun 21 November 2021:
Kosovo’s health officials are attempting a fresh approach to urge people to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by collaborating with the Muslim community at Friday prayers.
Imams around Kosovo urged the faithful to receive the vaccine, while medical personnel waited in mosque yards to vaccinate them.
Despite a recent drop in daily new cases, Kosovo authorities are concerned about a rapid spread of the delta form, which has recently been identified. They are adamant that the vaccination is the most effective weapon for limiting the epidemic.
The number of people wanting the vaccine has decreased from 20,000 per day at the beginning of March to less than 2,000 each day this week. Approximately 42 percent of the 1.8 million population has been immunized.
A few hundred people gathered for prayers at Pristina’s biggest mosque, and many of them went on to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
This month has seen a dramatic decrease in the number of new cases reported on a daily basis in Kosovo. On Thursday, only 11 incidents were reported, with no fatalities.
Authorities continue to impose some restrictions, such as an overnight curfew, and masks are required both indoors and outdoors.
Some 42% of the 1.8 million population have been vaccinated.
