Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock with Ukrainian foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba
At the start of a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in the Weißenhäuser Strand resort on the northern German coast, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed worries over Ukraine’s demand for Western fighter jets.
Baerbock cited Western nations’ rejection of Ukraine’s request for a no-fly zone above the country. “We have also taken a clear position” on supplying plane materials, she added.
The foreign minister said that during her visit to Kiev on Tuesday she “spoke about how we can support Ukraine, especially things regarding their resilience, their ability to defend themselves, without contributing to NATO becoming a participant in this war.”
On Friday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has been invited to participate in the negotiations. He requested for advanced jets and anti-missile defense systems to be delivered to his country during a recent visit to Germany.
