◼️ Government will withdraw previously proposed tax increases: Ramaphosa did not provide further details on which previously proposed tax increases will be withdrawn in this financial year. It is also possible that the President was referring to previously proposed taxes, which have already been withdrawn in the latest budget. “The 2026 Budget tax proposals provide individual taxpayers with full relief for the effects of inflation and raise various tax thresholds,” he said.

◼️ South Africa cannot deport its way out of regional crisis: This is the warning from political analysts who note the humanitarian crisis which began as sporadic, localised vigilante violence against foreign nationals, has now spiralled into organised, leadership-driven movements vying to dictate terms to the state. With the “March and March” movement setting a June 30 deadline for undocumented migrants to leave – threatening a national shutdown – the government has been jolted into an enforcement crackdown.

◼️ What research reveals about misconduct in South African psychology: Fraudulent billing, including charging for services that were not provided, has emerged as the most common form of professional misconduct among registered psychologists in South Africa over the past decade, according to new research, Cape Times reported. The researchers found that fraudulent conduct accounted for about 83% of all ethical transgressions recorded against psychologists during the study period.

◼️ WhatsApp launches R29 subscription in SA: Meta Platforms said it did not plan to start charging for private messaging or other core features on WhatsApp. The WhatsApp Plus membership is free for the first month, although users are required to add a payment method to test it out. At launch, it adds six features to WhatsApp.
