◼️ DA, RISE Mzansi account for nearly 90% of donations declared to IEC: Five political parties made declarations during the reporting period, including late and cumulative declarations. Democratic Alliance – R57 317 303 | RISE Mzansi – R30 000 000 | ActionSA – R9 910 432 | Alliance of Citizens for Change (A.C.C.) – R440 500 | Build One South Africa (Bosa) – R113 794. RISE Mzansi declared a single donation valued at R30 million from an entity known as ‘We Are The People’. This comes ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections (LGE), scheduled for 4 November 2026.

◼️ Tracking troubles: 28,000 parolees, including ‘murderers and rapists, ‘ unaccounted for in SA: DCS Minister Pieter Groenewald’s spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, dismissed the suggestions as “incorrect,” stating that the department has an accurate tracing system with 1,764 officials dedicated to Community Corrections supervision. “DCS maintains active tracking and tracing capabilities in all regions and no longer uses ‘archived absconders’ as an inactive category,” Nxumalo said. The department confirmed that 52,772 parolees and probationers are currently under Community Corrections supervision, which includes office reporting, home visits, and employment verification.

◼️ The South African man who NASA named a planet after: Siyabulela Lethuxolo Xuza, South African energy-engineering expert, entrepreneur, and founder of the investment firm Galactic Energy Ventures, has a minor planet named after him in the main asteroid belt near Jupiter. Xuza, born in 1989 in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, began experimenting with rocket fuels in his mother’s kitchen, where he nurtured his curiosity for science.

◼️New alcohol tax on the cards: The proposed tiered tax structure would place higher taxes on stronger alcoholic beverages, while minimum unit pricing would introduce a floor price to prevent extremely cheap alcohol from being sold. SAAPA campaign director Nomcebo Dlamini said cheap alcohol contributes directly to harmful consumption patterns, especially in poorer and rural communities. “In rural communities, you find these drinks that are 750 millilitres.” “You find young people carrying these bottles and walking around with them, and it’s because they are cheap and people can buy them, especially those who are economically disadvantaged.”
