Here’s what’s happening in South Africa today: 👇🏼
◼️ BMW recalls nearly 11,000 cars in SA: The recall affects 10,961 vehicles equipped with the Pinion Starter. “According to the supplier, due to production-related factors, the affected vehicles may experience increased wear of the solenoid switch after a high number of start operations. ◼️ Blaming migrants ignores the real causes of SA’s economic crisis: For example, our research suggests that the unemployment rate would fall by only six percentage points – from 43.6% to 37.6% – if all foreigners’ jobs were somehow handed to unemployed South Africans. This is a relatively modest reduction given the scale of South Africa’s unemployment crisis. It highlights that foreigners do not dominate the labour market overall, even if some sectors and locations have higher concentrations of immigrant workers.

Beyond routine inspections, electrical appliances must also undergo testing before they can be deemed safe for home use in South Africa.

◼️ Minister’s school pit latrine claims clash with reality on the ground: However, civil society organisations and non-profit organisations caution that the reality on the ground in many provinces does not yet reflect the department’s claims. They point to ongoing reports of learners still using unsafe pit latrines, schools omitted from the Safe audit, and the failure to remove old pit toilets after building new toilets.
