◼️ Ramaphosa tells African leaders that South Africans are ashamed of the actions of anti-illegal migration movements: “The criminal actions of a few within our communities are a repudiation of the solidarity upon which this southern African is built. We cannot preach integration at summits and practice exclusion in the streets of our countries. “Now as we work towards Vision 2050, we should seek a region in which people are able to freely move according to established principles, protocols and laws. This means we must work together to address the conditions that drive migration,” he said.

◼️ Young adults account for 55% of identified problem gamblers: It said its 2023 and 2024 Socio-Economic Impact of Gambling in South Africa study reinforces the need for heightened awareness among younger South Africans. “The study found that gambling participation is highest among people aged 25 to 34, with 77% of respondents in this age group indicating that they participate in gambling. “The study further found that 55% of identified problem gamblers are aged between 25 and 34.”

◼️ She will never be the mayor of Johannesburg: “Helen can’t work with. I can tell you today that the Patriotic Alliance will never ever work with the DA,” he said. “Helen will never be the Mayor of the City of Johannesburg. Helen is leading in polls and dreams only.” The poll McKenzie was referring to was the recent Social Research Foundation (SRF) poll, which showed that the DA was leading in Johannesburg.

◼️ SA’s top court blocks Shell’s Wild Coast exploration plans: One of the reasons why communities and environmental groups ⁠had challenged Shell’s exploration plans was that they argued there had not been sufficient public consultation. “The court affirmed that the right to public participation is not ⁠just about following a procedure and ticking boxes, but rather that it is about placing the dignity of our people at the centre ⁠of developmental decisions that will affect them,” said Delme Cupido, director at Natural Justice, one of the applicants in the case.

◼️ Warning for South Africans with new Eskom smart meters: Eskom is rolling out smart meters to eliminate load reduction in South Africa, and people whose meters show any unusual usage could face hefty fines and disconnection. It won’t be easy for customers who previously connected illegally or bypassed their meters to do so after receiving a smart meter. “Traditional electricity meters have limited capability to detect illegal activities such as meter tampering and illegal connections,” Eskom told MyBroadband.
