◼️ SA’s top envoy to Ghana summoned over attacks on foreigners: Earlier this week, video clips were shared online showing vigilante groups attacking and confronting people they believed were in South Africa illegally – in one of them they challenge a Ghanaian man over his status. South Africa’s acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia also condemned the acts, saying that “no individual or group has the authority to take the law into their own hands, irrespective of grievances or frustrations”.

◼️Public workers in SA get 4% pay hike: The Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) announced a 4% pay hike for public servants, effective 1 April 2026. The 4% increase follows a 5.5% increase in 2025/26, with the increase for 2027/28 based on the same CPI-projected rate as this year, limited to the same 4%-6% range.

◼️ Lesufi says claims at Madlanga commission that he demanded police dockets are ‘baffling’: Nkhwashu told the Madlanga commission that he was instructed “to collect all case dockets that had a J50 warrant of arrest and to submit them to the deputy provincial commissioner of detective services, Major General [Dumisani] Khumalo”. “General Khumalo was to oversee those investigations as directed by the Premier of Gauteng, Mr Panyaza Lesufi. The instructions were not limited to the Katiso case. It applied to many dockets from all five districts in Gauteng,” he said.

◼️ Warning to anyone who owns dogs in SA: Additionally, in August, 40 dogs were poisoned in just one night in the Florida and Roodepoort area in Johannesburg. This followed a similar incident where two dogs where found poisoned in Panbult Street in Faerie Glen, a suburb of Pretoria. Although the types of poisons where not identified in these recent cases, authorities noted that most cases of dog poisoning involve a product with the street name “ Two Step”.

◼️ How product recalls work in SA: “Suppliers or retailers are obliged to remedy product defects or safety issues, at no cost to the consumer. In the case of defective or unsafe consumer products, suppliers or retailers of affected products are required to remove affected products from the shelves and ensure that those products are destroyed. So, who is responsible for verifying that a recalled product is safe again? Is it the company, an independent body, or the NCC?
