◼️ R3-per-litre increase for petrol in SA: If the fuel price adjustments were made today and the slate levy was not adjusted, motorists buying unleaded 95 would pay R29.92 per litre inland and R29.05 per litre on the coast. The primary reason for the exponential increase is the surge in oil and petroleum product prices, driven by the ongoing US–Iran conflict. If oil prices remain elevated and the rand does not strengthen substantially against the dollar, petrol could cost R30 or more per litre next month.

◼️ Diabetes is SA’s biggest killer: Diabetes is wearing South Africa’s Grim Reaper crown once again, claiming about 79 lives a day and ranking as the country’s biggest killer, ahead of TB and HIV. Stats SA’s latest Mortality Report, released this month, shows diabetes accounted for 6.1% of the 474,366 deaths recorded in 2024. Diabetes, a chronic disease that affects how the body regulates blood sugar, hit women hardest, accounting for 7.9% of all female deaths.

◼️ Norwood man apologises for racist confrontation outside synagogue: Rahamaan alleged that Plett called him the K-word and threatened his family before driving away, after which he followed Plett to Chabad of Norwood and filmed him there. The footage showed Plett aiming racist abuse at Rahamaan and referring to people being killed in Gaza. The SA Jewish Board of Deputies described his conduct as offensive and unacceptable, the SA Jewish Report reported.
