◼️ Was Zuma looking for funding? Zuma told reporters in Haridwar, an ancient City in the northern state of Uttarakhand, that he had come to India to catch up with his “friend” and “brother”, Ajay. Zuma told the Indian media that South African authorities had gone after the controversial Gupta family because they did not “like the work” that they were doing with him. Pretoria has made several attempts to bring the Gupta brothers back to South Africa to face charges related to state capture. According to reports, the Gupta brothers have now resettled in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but they also have access to their country of birth, India.

◼️ ‘Slap in the face’: Corruption Watch, in a statement on Wednesday, 1 July, said it was “alarmed” by Ramaphosa’s decision to appoint Pule to the position. “This decision does not invite confidence, as the appointment places a politician with a well-documented record of ethical misconduct at the helm of a department that administers social grants for some 28 million South Africans and manages one of [the] government’s largest budgets,” it said.

◼️ Important information for married couples: A recent Constitutional Court judgment has highlighted an important issue for married couples who own property in South Africa. The court confirmed that the legal consequences of customary and civil marriages can have a direct impact on buying, selling, and managing immovable property. The case before the Constitutional Court involved a couple who entered into a customary marriage in 2011 without signing an antenuptial contract before the ceremony.

◼️Over 35,000 migrants processed through Beitbridge: “Since we started here on the 7th, when the president announced the measures that we have to put in place with regard to migration issues, we have dealt with more than 35,000 people that we have repatriated and deported through this border post,” Chilembe said. He added that on Wednesday, authorities processed about 2,400 people, including 1,700 Malawian citizens and about 700 Zimbabweans.

◼️When your phone number will be deactivated in SA: The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has published the Numbering Plan Fourth Amendment Regulations, 2026, which outline when a cellphone number can be deactivated. The amended regulations primarily focus on number recycling and the deactivation of unused mobile numbers. It also amended several definitions in the Act.
