◼️ US bringing more tariff pain for SA: However, in this case, the administration was specifically looking at trade practices related to forced labour. According to the representative, the office wanted to determine whether the economies’ acts, policies, and practices failed to impose and enforce effectively a prohibition on the importation of goods produced with forced labour. “The failure of our most important trading partners to address the importation of goods made with forced labour is unacceptable,” it said.

◼️SARS has a new plan to get R300 billion more: The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is moving forward with its plan to crack down on illicit trade, with the taxman looking to introduce a new product verification system that will allow consumers to check whether products are legitimate. South Africa’s illicit economy is estimated by SARS to be worth as much as R1.2 trillion, or 15% of the country’s total GDP.

◼️ Ramaphosa ignores opposition calls amid impeachment threat: President Ramaphosa told the National Assembly that his ultimate goal is to grow the economy and won’t be distracted by what he labels political theatre. “This debate has demonstrated that while we may differ on matters of policy and politics, there is broad agreement on the challenges confronting our nation and on the urgency with which they must be addressed.

◼️ Over 900 Mozambicans leave SA: The Border Management Authority (BMA) says it successfully processed the departure of 933 Mozambican nationals from South Africa to Mozambique through the Lebombo Port of Entry on 3 June 2026. Meanwhile, the Government of Malawi said it was preparing a voluntary repatriation programme for Malawian nationals affected by recent attacks and demonstrations targeting African migrants in parts of South Africa.

◼️ Online gambling banned in SA: “There has been a growing trend among bookmakers to offer interactive gambling products under the guise of betting on contingencies, particularly through online casino-style games,” it said. “While some operators claim that these offerings are permissible under the National Gambling Act, they clearly fall outside the scope of traditional contingency betting,” the NGB said.
