◼️ South Africans living in small towns headed for serious trouble: His comments come after the National Treasury announced that it would temporarily withhold the equitable share transfers for July from 69 municipalities. The Treasury said the transfers would resume once the affected municipalities meet the required conditions and submit proper proof of compliance. The Treasury’s decision to withhold the transfers for July will affect both large and small municipalities across the country, including the City of Johannesburg, Emfuleni, and Manguang.

◼️ Bread prices soar as South Africans take over township spaza shops: “We used to pay R20 for a loaf of bread, and now it’s R30 since the foreign spaza shop owners left the area. Their shops were taken over by locals, and suddenly we’re paying more for almost everything. When we argue with them and ask why they’re charging more, they tell us to go back to the foreigners and buy it cheaper. They know we don’t have a choice. We just have to pay more if we need those things now,” said Zandile, a 37-year-old single mother from Chesterville, Durban.

◼️ Home Affairs Minister changes visa requirements: The Minister of Home Affairs, Leon Schreiber, has offered a lifeline for those with a temporary residence visa and permanent residence permit applicants by waiving the requirement to submit a medical report. The waiver applies to temporary Residence Visa applications submitted in South Africa and to Permanent Residence Permit applications submitted both within South Africa and abroad.

◼️ Telkom to build R100-million AI institute in SA: Telkom has pledged R100 million to establish the Telkom AI Institute, a new platform designed to equip South Africans with artificial intelligence and digital skills and foster local innovation. The pledge was announced in Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Coalition.

◼️US jails former SA Air Force brigadier-general for acting ‘as an agent of a foreign country’: The US said an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Nashville field office and the United States Department of Energy Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence revealed that Anyamba was acting in the US under South Africa’s direction and control. She also provided materially false statements in connection with her efforts to obtain a security clearance.
