◼️ Ramaphosa makes changes to National Executive: “These changes will affect the Ministries of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Trade, Industry and Competition, Electricity and Energy, Higher Education, and Water and Sanitation,” the Presidency said in a short statement on Tuesday night.

◼️ ‘Political project’: “Every Thursday, for the next six months, we are marching until they [undocumented immigrants] are gone,” Ngobese-Zuma told thousands of protesters outside Point Police Station in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Tuesday afternoon. However, it has also raised questions about the potential political motivations underlying the involvement of certain parties in the anti-migrant movement, given that the timeline of disruptions laid out by Ngobese-Zuma will form part of the lead-up to local government elections.

◼️ SA spends R180 billion a year on road accidents: With more than 800,000 road accidents annually, traffic incidents cost South Africa’s economy an estimated R180 billion every year. Road accidents also have a significant impact on individual motorists, who are sometimes forced to pay thousands of rands out of pocket for an accident they did not cause. “Consider a typical example: A negligent driver causes R50,000 worth of damage to your car. You pay a R5,000 excess, and your insurer pays the remaining R45,000,” she said.

◼️ New mandatory travel rules for anyone entering or leaving SA: SARS said that, in general, any person entering or leaving South Africa by air, land or sea and rail must submit a traveller declaration. This includes South African citizens, residents and foreign travellers. A parent, legal guardian, caretaker or another assisting person must complete the declaration on behalf of a minor or a person who cannot complete it themselves.

◼️ Digital IDs are coming to South Africa, here’s what comes after: “By adopting a Digital Identity, Data Exchange, Digital Payments, and a Central Platform, South Africa can modernise its public sector,” it said. “This will reduce costs and provide accessible and efficient services for all people.” It said that South Africans already have a form of digital ID called Digital Financial Identity, which is managed by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).
