Yemen’s Houthi group claimed Wednesday that it struck the Saudi oil tanker Daisy with a ballistic missile in the Gulf of Aden, marking its second claimed attack on a Saudi tanker in a single day.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said on the US social media platform X that the attack “achieved its objective” and forced the vessel to turn back.
He said the strike was part of what the group describes as its maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia and its “blockade for blockade” strategy.
Earlier Wednesday, the Houthis also claimed they had struck another Saudi oil tanker, Wafaa, with several ballistic missiles in the northern Red Sea off the coast of Yanbu.
Saudi authorities did not immediately comment on either claim.

Saudi and Egyptian FMs discuss Jerusalem and regional developments
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud has met with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting in support of Jerusalem and its holy sites, according to a post by Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry on X.
The two officials reviewed bilateral cooperation and discussed the latest regional developments and diplomatic efforts.
During the meeting, Prince Faisal said Jerusalem “must be a city of peace and coexistence, not an arena of conflict or the imposition of a fait accompli.”
Brent crude futures surpass $80 as Houthis claim attack on Red Sea tanker
Brent crude futures were up $1.51, or 1.9 percent, at $80.87 a barrel by 11:23 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate futures gained 90 cents, or 1.19 percent, to $76.67.
The latest price moves come as Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels said earlier that they had attacked a Saudi oil tanker in the northern Red Sea, denting hopes of a de-escalation in Iran war hostilities that could restore shipping traffic and oil flows in the Middle East.
The Houthis said they had launched a ballistic missile attack on a Saudi oil tanker off the coast of Yanbu, a key port for Saudi crude oil exports.
