Hundreds of visitors poured into the exhibition hall of Riyadh’s International Book Fair, the country’s largest, to find new titles and publishers.

“There are people who are passionate and excited to read books and to learn more about different cultures at the international book fair,” one of the visitors of the fair, Bader al-Thenean, said.

The book expo opened on October 1 and will run until October 10 in four separate sites in Riyadh, showcasing over a million books and a thousand publishers.

“Many of our books are not easily available in Saudi Arabia right now and people would like to have more access to them,” Simon Gwynn, managing director of the University Press Group, said.

“We have been talking to people and there has been a lot of good feedback from the selection that we have brought.”

The book fair also offers a variety of children’s publications published in multiple languages.

Doha Fahad, a visitor of the fair, said she this year brought her daughters along and were glad to visit the book fair, usually an annual event, after it was canced last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Musical performances, literary conferences, and poetry evenings are among the activities available to attendees of all ages.
