Tue 09 August 2022:

Instagram, which is owned by Meta, has said that it will soon start testing new “ultra-tall photos” in an effort to match its full-screen videos.

The Verge reports that the firm will support photographs with a 9:16 aspect ratio so they may fill the full screen when users navigate through the app’s feed.

The new test will start “in a week or two,” and the platform’s current maximum screen ratio for displaying vertical images that have been cropped appropriately is roughly 4:5.

“You can have tall videos, but you cannot have tall photos on Instagram, so we thought maybe we should make sure that we treat both equally,” Instagram head Adam Mosseri said during his weekly ‘Ask Me Anything’.

Earlier, Instagram’s TikTok-like redesign was criticised by some photographers for the way it forced all photos to awkwardly display in a 9:16 frame.

According to reports, the corporation still plans to promote that ultra-tall photo experience without requiring it for everyone.

According to the reports, the company has also stated that it will cut back on the number of recommendations displayed to users until it becomes more adept at choosing content that they will truly find enjoyable.

The platform has recently started requesting information regarding the race and ethnicity of some users.

According to the company, it will be difficult to gauge how its products will affect various groups if it does not know the color or ethnicity of its customers.
