Sun 28 November 2021:

According to a Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) officer, five Peshmerga soldiers were killed in a suspected Daesh/ISIS attack in northern Iraq on Sunday.

Suspected Daesh/ISIS gunmen attacked a Peshmerga site in the Kolju district of northern Iraq’s Garmian region, said the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media.

According to him, four other soldiers were injured in the attack.

Peshmerga forces launched a manhunt for the attackers, the officer said.

There was no comment from the Iraqi authorities on the report.

Attacks targeting Iraqi security forces, including Kurdish peshmerga fighters, are common and have been on the rise since ISIS was defeated on the battlefield in 2017.

Militants remain active through sleeper cells in many areas, especially across a band of territory in the north under dispute between federal Iraq and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government.
