Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz has unveiled a plan to halt “incitement and conspiracy activities” that he accused the Turkish government of carrying out in Jerusalem.
Katz said he intended to present his plan to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for approval.
“There is Turkish activity against Israel, inspired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s hostile remarks, which could lead to violence,” Katz said in radio remarks about the plan on Monday.
“It is no secret that the question of Turkey’s influence among Palestinians in Jerusalem has been a concern for Israeli security and political sides for years. We have said in the past and repeat it today: We will not allow Erdogan to incite [Palestinians] in Jerusalem, and there is a need to curb his activity,” he added.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry’s plan includes a series of steps that it says were primarily aimed at “protecting the status of Jordan.”
The plan calls for considering the Muslim Brotherhood illegal in Israel and to fight any activity carried out by the movement or any of its supporters.
Katz said his plan was to restrict the political base of Turkish activities in East Jerusalem and strengthen Israeli sovereignty throughout the city.
“The era of the Ottoman Empire is over,” he underlined.
