Thu 06 October 2022:

On Thursday, Kevin Spacey appeared in Manhattan court to represent himself in a civil case brought by actor Anthony Rapp.

As they entered the federal courthouse, neither Spacey nor Rapp engaged in conversation with the media.

After a party at Spacey’s Manhattan apartment in 1986, Rapp claimed in 2017 that Spacey tried to seduce him as a child actor. The accusation sparked a string of followups against Spacey, effectively ending his career and depriving his hit series House of Cards of its star for its sixth and final season.

Rapp first revealed his tale to the media outlet Buzzfeed, claiming that Spacey, who was 26 at the time, had become his friend while they were both performing on Broadway. Rapp claims that Spacey invited him to a party at his apartment, and that after everyone else left, Spacey picked up the 14-year-old and climbed on top of him in bed.

Spacey responded on Twitter, saying that he did not recall such an encounter, “but if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.”

Rapp said he maintained his silence for three decades but felt compelled to come forward in the wake of the then-bombshell allegations that felled disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

Jury selection began on Thursday’s events. That process will be followed by the delivery of the opening remarks.

A Los Angeles court has ordered Spacey to pay $30.9 million to the House of Cards creators for contract violations related to the harassment of staff on the former Netflix hit show. Spacey is also facing sexual assault charges in a London court.
