Sun 12 May 2019:

The first call to prayer (Athan) recorded live from the al-Masjid an-Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) in Saudi Arabia was made 66 years ago by Sheikh Abdulaziz Bukhari, the mozen (man who calls for prayer).

Social media users have been sharing an audio clip of the recorded event which dates back to 1953.
Many have touched upon the overwhelming feelings Muslims at the time must have embraced as athan was broadcast on different channels and radio stations.
Bukhari, born in 1933, was only 18 when he was appointed as the mosque’s mozen. He held that post for more than 60 years until his death in 2007.
Bukhari was known to have belonged to a community of mozens who had noble and rich voices.
