Fri 15 October 2021:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s new government will be unveiled on October 26 and parliament will resume on November 22, according to his office.

“The new Cabinet will remain gender balanced,” the prime minister’s office said in a statement.

Trudeau has previously stated that Chrystia Freeland, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, will remain in her position.

The new Liberal government, which was re-elected a few weeks ago, will “include re-introducing legislation to ban harmful conversion therapy,” which seeks to impose heterosexuality on LGBT people; accelerate climate action to build a cleaner country, and “continue to work with Indigenous partners and communities to walk the shared path of reconciliation.

” In addition, Ottawa wants all MPs in the 44th legislature to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

“Canadians expect their elected representatives to lead by example in the fight against this virus,” the statement said.

To reclaim an absolute majority in Parliament, Trudeau announced early elections in mid-August. He will have five more deputies than he did during his second term, as a result of a recent vote recount, compared to the four announced following the election.

His Liberals now have 160 seats in the House of Commons, compared to 119 for the Conservatives. In addition, the separatist Bloc Quebecois has 32 seats, the left-leaning New Democratic Party (NDP) has 25, and the Green Party has two.
