NEW REPOST FEATURE TO BE TESTED WITH SELECT USERS SOON ON INSTAGRAM

Sat 10 September 2022:

Instagram, a photo and video sharing app owned by Meta, has announced that it will soon allow users to repost other users’ posts.

Even though the company hasn’t made the repost feature publicly available yet, TechCrunch reports that it will soon start being tested with a small group of users.

“We’re exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed – similar to how you can reshare in Stories – so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work,” a Meta spokesperson was quoted as saying in an email.

“We plan to test this soon with a small number of people,” the spokesperson added.

Social media consultant Matt Navarra posted a screenshot showing the Reposts tab as the new feature’s first indication. All of the posts that users have shared on their accounts will most likely be located in this tab.

The Repost tab will show up on user profiles alongside the posts, reels, and tagged photos tabs, as shown in the screenshot.

Since there isn’t currently a direct way to repost posts on Instagram, users who want to do so occasionally use third-party apps.

The platform announced last month that it would by default restrict sensitive content for new teen users.

According to Instagram, teens only have access to the “Standard” and “Less” settings under the sensitive content control.
