Thu 23 September 2021:
Malnutrition has once again been pushed to the forefront by a UNICEF report. The UN’s children’s agency said in a report released on Wednesday that about one-third of children under the age of two years in many developing countries are fed a diet that is necessary for good growth.
According to the report, no progress has been achieved in boosting their diet in the recent decade. The news comes as the UN’s food security summit gets underway on Thursday.
For deplorable condition of children’s nutrition in 91 countries, it holds several issues, such as conflict, COVID-19 and climate breakdown, responsible.
According to the survey, over half of children aged six to 23 months in various developing nations were not fed the necessary number of meals per day, and even fewer had a diet that fulfilled the basic requirements.
The British government, according to UNICEF UK, can assist combat the problem by investing in nutrition.
“Millions of children around the world are affected by the life-limiting impacts of poor nutrition,” Jenny Vaughan, UNICEF UK’s senior policy adviser on child health, said.
“By investing £600 million over the next five years to reach 50 million children with nutrition-related programs, the UK government would be making a huge contribution to solving this problem and putting millions of children on a path to healthier and brighter futures,” Vaughan added.
