OVER 100,000 UKRAINIANS HAVE IMMIGRATED TO BRITAIN SINCE WAR

Thu 28 July 2022:

More than 100,000 Ukrainians have arrived in the United Kingdom since Russia’s invasion on February 24, according to the British government on Thursday, under two schemes set up to assist those fleeing Ukraine.

As of July 26, there were approximately 6.2 million Ukrainian refugees in Europe, and more than half of them had applied for temporary residency programs. More than one million Ukrainians have been registered in Poland alone.

Britain’s programs, one for those who already have family living there and another allowing Britons to house refugees, were at first criticized for being overly bureaucratic and keeping some refugees in limbo for weeks.

The government said the process was now fully digital and it aimed to process applications within 48 hours. It will also now allow children under the age of 18 to apply to come to Britain without a parent or guardian if they have proof of parental consent.

According to government figures, the number of applications received by Britain under its two Ukraine visa schemes was 198,200 as of July 26, with a total of 166,200 visas issued. By July 25, 104,000 of them had arrived in the United Kingdom.

Because Britain has prioritized Ukrainian visas, many applicants from other countries have experienced processing delays for work and study visas.
