Sun 07 November 2021:

After winning Australia’s vaccination lottery jackpot, a 25-year-old Sydney woman became an instant millionaire.

Joanne Zhu was named the Million Dollar Vax campaign’s grand prize winner today, winning $1 million for receiving her COVID-19 vaccinations.

Zhu entered the campaign alongside 2.74 million other people nationally.

“Am I dreaming, is this real? I cannot believe it,” the winner said as quoted by Sky news Australia.

She noted that she will use the money to treat her whole family to a nice trip in a five-star hotel for the Chinese New Year, if borders are open, and will invest the rest so that she can make more in the future.

“I want to fly my family out from China first class and put them up in a five star hotel for Chinese New Year if the borders are open,” Ms Zhu said.
“I will buy presents for my family and invest the rest of the money so I can make more money in the future and to help people if they need help.”
Ms Zhu said she was unable to take the initial call from the Million Dollar Vax campaign about her $1 million prize.
“Someone rang me the other day. I think it was on Friday, and I was at work, I couldn’t pick up the phone.

The Million Dollar Vax Campaign was started in October by a group of corporations and philanthropists as a means to boost vaccination rates in the country. During the campaign, Australia’s vaccination rates grew from 78.5% to 88.3%.

In addition to the $1 million prize, participants could also win one of 100 daily $1,000 prizes with an entire prize fund of $4.1 million.

On November 1, the country lifted its travel restrictions for fully vaccinated passengers which have been in place for nearly 18 months.

The campaign helped drive first-dose vaccinations from 78.5 per cent to an impressive 88.3 per cent throughout October.
Australia yesterday hit the 80 per cent double vaccination milestone for those aged over 16.
