PAKISTAN: PUNJAB POLICE FOIL TERROR ATTACK ON MIANWALI POLICE STATION

On Tuesday night, Punjab Police foiled a terrorist attack on the Makerwal police station in Mianwali’s Isakkhel district, Aaj News reported.

According to the police, a group of 20 to 25 heavily armed insurgents attacked the police station before fleeing after an exchange of heavy gunfire.

DPO Mianwali also arrived on the scene with extra force.

The district headquarters hospital has declared an emergency.

Meanwhile, Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar spoke to the SHO Makerwal police station on the phone and congratulated him for foiling the terrorist attack.

The attack comes a day after a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a crowded mosque next to the Police Lines in Peshawar, in a highly fortified security compound, killing a hundred people and injuring dozens of others.

According to the medical official, the death toll from a suicide bombing, at a mosque in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshaawar, has risen to 100.

Police suspect, that 12 kilograms of explosives were used by a suicide bomber, Inspector General of Peshaawar Police, Moazzim Jah Ansari said.

The roof of the mosque, which was located inside a government security compound, collapsed in the bombing, and rescuers had to remove mounds of debris, to recover many of the bodies, authorities said.
