Fri 28 January 2022:

Balochistan, a resource-rich province bordering Iran and Afghanistan, has been fighting a decades-long insurgency against the Pakistani government headed by armed ethnic groups. During the last couple years.

In response to a deadly incident in the Balochistan area, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan pledged that he will eradicate the South Asian country of “all forms of terrorism.”

The terrorist attack has also been condemned by other senior figures in the federal cabinet, including Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.

According to Pakistan’s military’s media branch, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a terrorist raid on a security checkpoint in the Kech area killed ten soldiers.

According to a statement released Thursday night, the terrorists carried out a “fire raid” on the evening of January 25.

The Pakistani military statement further said that the gunfire exchange also left one terrorist dead, while three others were detained by security forces.

“The armed forces are determined to eliminate terrorists from our soil no matter what the cost,” the statement reads.

While the Pakistani Army has yet to confirm the assailants’ identity, Reuters reports that the attack was carried out by the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), an armed insurgency group seeking to establish an independent Baloch state.

According to Reuters, the BLF says that 17 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the strike in a statement. The insurgent group has also admitted that one of its members was killed in the raid.

The BLF was created in 1964 and has been targeting Pakistani security forces, gas pipelines, and laborers working in Islamabad-backed infrastructure projects in the region, according to Stanford University’s Mapping Militants Project.

Insurgents in Balochistan have frequently accused the Pakistani government of ignoring the province’s development requirements, despite the province’s vast natural gas and gold reserves.
