POLLING FOR KHALISTAN REFERENDUM IN ITALY ON SUNDAY

Sun 08 May 2022:

The polling for Khalistan referendum will start at 9 am and will continue till 5 pm on Sunday in the Brescia city of Italy.

A referendum for a separate Sikh homeland started from London on October 31, last year, and so far tens of thousands of Sikhs have participated in the polling held in different cities of UK and other countries in connection with the Khalistan referendum.

The exercise had sent a strong message to India to end discrimination against Sikhs. The findings of the referendum would be shared with the United Nations and other international bodies to create wider consensus regarding the separate homeland for Sikhs in India.

Sikhs’ demand for a separate homeland is in complete consonance with the United States Charter and India cannot stop them from getting their birthright of freedom.

Sikhs for Justice, a US-based organization that supports the secession of Punjab from India to create Khalistan, released a new map of India in October last year that included not only Punjab but also Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and several districts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh as part of Khalistan.

The US-based Organization was founded and primarily headed by lawyer Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. It was banned in India in 2019 as an unlawful association. The ban came after it started campaigns for a Punjab independence referendum in 2019 to carve out a separate Khalistan.

The organisation has been fighting a long peaceful legal battle against the Indian government and politicians involved in the 1984 deadly operation against Sikhs since 2011. The Sikhs For Justice had filed criminal and human rights cases in the US courts against prominent leaders of the Congress Party (involved in Golden Temple Massacre).

Sikhs have been facing systematic persecutions and continuous exploitation at the hands of successive Indian governments. The movement itself is a big question mark on the secular face of India.

The latest move by the organisation fully supported by Sikhs all over the world is a clear sign of the desperation of minorities in India to get out of the hold of highly biased and brutal Hindutva regime.
