Sun 31 July 2022:
The White House reported that US Vice President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 once more, several days after he was given the all-clear to leave coronavirus isolation, in a rare instance of “rebound” following anti-viral drug treatment.
White House physician Dr Kevin O’Connor said in a letter on Saturday that Biden “has experienced no reemergence of symptoms, and continues to feel quite well”.
Biden, who tested positive for the disease nine days ago but then tested negative twice earlier this week, will resume isolation procedures, and his positive test is believed to be “rebound” positivity experienced by some COVID patients, according to O’Connor.
Biden tweeted about his positive case, saying it can happen to a “small minority of folks.”
“I’ve got no symptoms but I am going to isolate for the safety of everyone around me. I’m still at work, and will be back on the road soon,” he tweeted.
Folks, today I tested positive for COVID again.
This happens with a small minority of folks.
I’ve got no symptoms but I am going to isolate for the safety of everyone around me.
I’m still at work, and will be back on the road soon.

In accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, Biden will reenter isolation for at least five days.
According to the agency, the majority of rebound cases are still mild, and no cases of severe illness during that time have been reported.
On July 21, Biden, 79, had his initial positive test; he was then given Paxlovid, an antiviral medication. The virus was not found in his blood samples on July 26 or 27. Then he was permitted to emerge from isolation while wearing a mask indoors.
His positive tests puts him among the minority of those prescribed the drug to experience a rebound case of the virus.
On Monday, Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House COVID-19 coordinator, told reporters that data “suggests that between 5 and 8% of people have rebound” after Paxlovid treatment.
