PUTIN ACCUSES WEST OF SEEKING GLOBAL LEADERSHIP THROUGH “UNSAVORY” METHODS

Russian president says Moscow has strengthened sovereignty and deepened ties with BRICS partners

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday accused Western countries of seeking to restore their former position as global leaders “by any means necessary,” including through what he called “unsavory” tactics.

Speaking during a BRICS Business Forum panel in New Delhi, Putin said successful companies operate in an environment of intense daily effort and “fierce competition.”

“We have constantly been told that competition is a ‘sacred cow’ — something that must not be touched at all. Unfortunately, however, our Western competitors are currently trying to regain their former leadership by any means necessary,” Putin said.

He argued that competition can sometimes assume “unsavory” forms, including actions carried out at the state level.

Putin Cites Attacks on Infrastructure

Putin said such measures can include direct physical action against industrial and logistical infrastructure, as well as the destruction of facilities and pipelines.

“Attempts are being made to block international transport corridors and seize maritime vessels,” Putin further said, noting that illegal restrictions are also being imposed, accompanied by threats of secondary sanctions against those refusing to act in the interests of others and, instead, defending their own.

The Russian president also claimed that more than 30,000 sanctions have been imposed on Russia, saying the figure is nearly twice the number of sanctions imposed on all other countries around the world combined.

Despite the pressure, Putin said Russia had responded by strengthening its sovereignty and expanding cooperation with trusted international partners.

“We have strengthened our national sovereignty and are developing ties with reliable, predictable partners,” Putin said, adding that BRICS is ready to cooperate with all partners.

Putin Arrives in India for BRICS Summit

Putin arrived in India earlier Friday for a three-day visit.

His trip includes participation in the 18th BRICS summit, scheduled to take place Saturday and Sunday in the Indian capital.

The visit comes as BRICS continues to position itself as a platform for cooperation among emerging and developing economies, with discussions expected to focus on economic ties and broader international cooperation.
