Tue 09 November 2021:
A Moscow court on Monday imposed further fines on Google and Telegram, the Russian-founded encrypted messaging app, for failing to remove illegal content.
The court’s press staff reported on its Telegram channel that Telegram was fined four million rubles (49,440 Euros) and Google was fined two million rubles.
Russia has threatened to pay Google a percentage of its annual Russian turnover for failing to remove forbidden information from its search engine and YouTube, in Moscow’s most aggressive measure yet to rein in global internet corporations.
Google announced the penalties on Monday but made no more comment. Google and a Russian lawmaker said last month that the firm had paid more than 32 million roubles in prior fines.
Two other administrative proceedings against Google were postponed until Nov. 29 in order for a Google representative to have more time to analyze the case files, according to the court.
