Mon 18 September 2023:
Ramzan Kadyrov’s health is unknown to Russia, despite claims that the Chechen leader may be ill.
On Monday, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, told reporters, “We have no information on this.”
Peskov made the remarks after unconfirmed reports on social media said Kadyrov was in a coma.
After the rumours began to spread, two videos were released on Sunday of Kadyrov at an unidentified location.
In the first, he is seen smiling while on a stroll. In the second, he recommends people play sports. He is heard speaking Chechen and Russian.
“I strongly recommend that everyone who cannot distinguish the truth from lies on the internet go for a walk, get some fresh air and put their thoughts in order,” the video’s captions said.
“The rain can be wonderfully invigorating”.

It was impossible to know for sure when the videos were shot.
Speculation about Kadyrov’s health arose when a report from the Ukrainian news outlet Obozrevatel on Friday claimed a security agency spokesperson as stating Kadyrov was in “serious condition. His existing diseases have worsened.”
Obozrevatel earlier on Monday claimed that Kadyrov had undergone a failed kidney transplant.
Despite a lack of evidence supporting the spokesperson’s claims, they were made after months of rumours that Kadyrov was suffering from kidney issues.
Kadyrov has held the position of leader in the Chechen Republic since 2007 and has been a vocal supporter of the Kremlin, especially following Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula in 2014. He has fervently endorsed Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, referring to it as a “Big Jihad” and even advocating for the use of low-yield nuclear weapons against Ukraine.
According to The Daily Beast, he has earned the nicknames “Putin’s soldier” and “Putin’s attack dog” for his unwavering loyalty.
Kadyrov currently holds the rank of Colonel General and is actively involved in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
He dispatched Chechen fighters to take part in Bakhmut’s bloody struggle in July. According to a report from The Daily Beast, Kadyrov’s soldiers had contracts with Russia’s Ministry of Defense, unlike the mercenaries connected to the late Wagner commander Yevgeny Prigozhin.
