Sergey Shoygu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council and former defense minister, arrived in Tehran on Monday for a working visit. According to TASS, Shoygu is set to meet with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Ahmadian and Chief of Iran’s General Staff Mohammad Bagheri. He will also be received by Iran’s newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The discussions in Tehran will focus on a range of bilateral cooperation issues, as well as global and regional security concerns. The visit underscores the strong regional alliance between Iran and Russia, which has been reinforced in recent years amid increasing tensions with the US.

G7 Expresses Concern Over Middle East Tensions
The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) major democracies, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with the High Representative of the European Union, expressed “deep concern” over the escalating tensions in the Middle East. In a statement, they urged all parties involved to avoid further violence, reduce tensions, and engage constructively towards de-escalation.
The G7 ministers emphasized that no country stands to benefit from a further escalation in the region, highlighting the potential for a broader conflict if tensions continue to rise. They called for immediate steps to break the cycle of retaliatory violence.
